Privacy Policy

kfluent ("we", "the site") is a free Korean-learning resource. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site and improve it. We do not sell your personal data. There are no passwords; the only personal detail you can give us is an optional email address you use to sign in, described below.

What we collect

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how the site is used, in aggregate. This may include your approximate location (country/city), device and browser type, and the pages you visit. We use this to improve the lessons and word lists — not to identify you personally.

On-device progress. When you take a quiz, use the flashcards or play the word games, your progress (which words you know, your quiz and game scores) is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. It stays on your device and is not sent to us unless you sign in with an email address, as described next. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Optional email sign-in. With "Sign in" at the top of every page you may enter an email address to save your progress across devices — word games, flashcards and lesson quizzes. There is no password: we email a sign-in link to that address, and opening it signs in the device you open it on, which proves the address is yours. The link works once and expires after 15 minutes; a device stays signed in for 30 days. We store the address, a hashed (not readable) session token for each signed-in device, hashed one-time sign-in tokens, the IP address that asked for a link (to review abuse), your per-word correct/wrong tallies and when you last practiced each word, your best game scores, your lesson quiz scores and your page language in a Cloudflare D1 database. Signing out removes that device's session; your progress stays in the browser. If you never sign in, nothing is sent: your progress simply stays in this browser. Apart from sign-in links and the newsletter below, we email you only when you ask: a results email is sent only when you press the button for it on the Results tab, and at most once a day.

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name or payment details — the site is free with no sign-up.

Cookies & similar technologies

Google Analytics sets cookies to measure usage. Local storage (described above) is used to remember your learning progress. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the lessons and word lists will still work.

Third-party services

The site runs on Cloudflare (hosting, delivery, the D1 database that holds saved game progress, and the email service that sends sign-in links and the newsletter) and uses Google Analytics. Illustrations and assets are served from Cloudflare storage. These providers process technical data (such as your IP address) as needed to deliver the site securely.

Newsletter

When you first sign in to the word games with an email address we ask, once, whether you also want news about new words and games. We send email only if you answer Yes: one short welcome message, then occasional updates. If you answer No, the address is used for progress only: the only emails you can get from us are sign-in links and results emails you ask for yourself. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works with one click, you can switch the newsletter off on your account page, and you can also unsubscribe by replying to any of them.

Children

kfluent is intended for a general audience learning Korean. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

You can opt out of Google Analytics with browser settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, and you can clear local storage at any time through your browser. While you are signed in, your account page lets you turn the newsletter on or off, sign out on this device or on every device, download everything we store about you as a JSON file, and delete your account yourself: the address and everything stored under it (sign-in sessions, progress on our server, newsletter subscription) are removed from our database immediately and permanently. The progress kept in this browser stays unless you choose to clear it as well. We never sell or share your data.
