💡 Good to know

Two forms to know: the noun 색 form (빨간색 = "the color red") names a color, while the adjective form (빨갛다 = "to be red") describes something. The basic color adjectives 빨갛다·파랗다·노랗다·까맣다·하얗다 are all ㅎ-irregular, so they conjugate as 빨개요, 파래요, 노래요.

FAQ

How do you say colors in Korean?
Most colors are a base + 색 (saek): 빨간색 red, 파란색 blue, 노란색 yellow, 초록색 green, 검은색 black, 흰색 white. The full list with romanization is above.
What is the difference between 빨간색 and 빨갛다?
빨간색 is the noun "the color red"; 빨갛다 is the adjective "to be red", used to describe something (그 사과는 빨개요 — that apple is red). 빨갛다 is ㅎ-irregular, so it becomes 빨개요.
